Oil on canvas , inscribed on reverse. painted 1952. 21ins x 36in
Painted in 1952, this oil has been in the artist studio and never exhibited until now. Hitchens painted many still life's,alongside the landscapes he was better known for. His Still life's are usually very colourful and quite close to being almost abstract. Here we have various jugs and bowls filled with flowers on a pink background , the card table.
After Hitchens death Molly Hitchens (the artist's wife) inscribed on the reverse all the paintings in the studio. This oil is inscribed by Molly. A certificate of authentication from John Hitchens(the artist's son)could also be obtained.
