Portrait of Miss Rose Jenkins , the artist’s sister.
Oil on canvas, inscribed on a label on reverse, 20 ins x 16ins .
Blanche Jenkins painted in oils and watercolours, exhibiting 32 times at the RA. Jenkins used an unusual technique to create the lights and darks in her painting which involved layers of glazes or paint then strong rubbing out to create a texture on the canvas. This is apparent in this portrait. In painting her sister , Jenkins has created a sensitive portrait , with the girl seemingly completely at ease in her pose.
